Susan - 77 Pademba Road - Freetown

July 1968 - at #77 Pademba Road - Freetown, Sierra Leone. It was in this second floor location that we stayed with the Nelson-Williams family while training in the special summer school in Freetown. Our host, Mrs. Lottie Nelson-Williams saw to it that we were part of the family - I remember there being some 8 or 10 children, a few aunts, and a number of others. Mrs. Nelson-Williams' husband, Claude Nelson-Williams had been arrested in a recent coup (in April) and was imprisoned in the nearby Pademba Road prison which was down the road from us. The Nelson-Williams family were Krio. In this photo Susan looks out the window of our veranda onto the busy street below.
