Tops

In the Kuranko village of Sokurella - located in the North of Sierra Leone at the base of the highest mountains in West Africa (outside of Mt. Cameroon) these boys spent their afternoon playing the game of Tops on a veranda. This was a popular game throughout Sierra Leone (and perhaps throughout West Africa if not beyond) this game along with the game of Warri was part of the Sokurella repertoire of ways to pass the time when the mid-day sun was high and hot. This photo was taken in March 1970.
